Splendid Sculptures

Image
On Friday, we saw some incredible art @ the NOMA Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden . Viewing art can be a blast...we practiced using  descriptive words, guessing/giving titles and picking favorites and explaining  why ...!!   Our class's favorite sculpture was Karma by Do Ho Suh... Out of curiosity, I found some additional work by this artist and it's just as fantastic:  https://collabcubed.com/2012/02/21/do-ho-suh-floor-plus-cause-effect/ HW/Extension Activity:  We didn't get a chance to see   all the sculptures   so please go back (it's free to visit the sculpture garden any time) and enjoy exploring more. Use the Visual Thinking Strategy method questions (VTS,  http://www.vtshome.org/), and ask... What do I see? What else do I see? What makes me say that?  Post another favorite sculpture on your follow up trip and tell us why !

Farmer’s Market + French = Bon Appetit!

Image
Fresh air, farmer’s market food & French —sounds like the perfect combination for a morning adventure. Well, l ast Tuesday, Ms. Lee, Mmd. Erin and myself walked the student to Carver Park and the Crescent City Farmer’s Market to experience... just that! Look through these photos of the farmer's market and spot the food we used for a group snack... HW/Extension Activity: On your next trip to get food (to the grocery store, farmer's market, corner store, backyard, etc.), snap a few photos and post them below! Let's see all the different places we can get food, what kind of food we find and ask Mmd. Erin to help us translate it into French next French Culture & Language class.

Bonjour Francophone Week

Image
Every year, during the last week of March, our school celebrates French-speaking countries from around the world - Francophone week! Every class selects a country, studies and researches about it and then decorates their classroom doors. This year, our class's Francophone country was: Guadeloupe ! We did some research on Guadeloupe by watching travel videos, looking at maps, atlases, geography books and by taking a picture walk via digital PDF presentation! In conclusion, we had a dialogue on what we now know about Guadeloupe, what we might sense (see, hear, taste, etc.) if we were there and created door decor inspired by it. Take a look... HW/Extension: Walk around the school and take pictures of your favorite Francophone doors..and answer the following questions: What elements do they like? How were some of the doors more interesting than others? Which one would get your vote?* * Célébrons la francophonie!  All teachers (French, Montessori, and Ancillary...
